What it is
Chlorodehydromethyltestosterone (CDMT, "Turinabol" or "Tbol") is an oral anabolic–androgenic steroid (AAS), the 4-chloro-substituted derivative of metandienone (Dianabol).[1][2] It was developed by East German company Jenapharm in the early 1960s and was historically used for androgen deficiency and catabolic states, but is now best known for performance-enhancement and was central to a state-sponsored doping program.[2][3]
How it works
CDMT binds to the androgen receptor to drive muscle protein synthesis, shifting the anabolic-to-androgenic balance in favor of anabolic effects.[4] A 17-alpha-methyl (C17-alkyl) group lets it survive first-pass liver metabolism so it can be taken orally, but this same modification makes it hepatotoxic.[5][6] A double bond between carbons 1 and 2 lowers its androgenic strength, and a chlorine atom at carbon 4 blocks aromatization, so it does not convert to estrogen.[4][7] Like all AAS it interacts with the androgen receptor to reduce gonadotropin output, suppressing the body's own testosterone production.[8]
Risks & side effects
Most important: As a 17-alpha-alkylated oral steroid, CDMT is hepatotoxic: it raises liver enzymes (AST/ALT) and stresses the liver, with risk rising at higher doses and longer cycles.[6][11] AAS more broadly can cause drug-induced liver injury presenting with jaundice and pruritus, so liver-function monitoring during any oral cycle is essential.[12][13]

Dosage context
Commonly-reported (not a prescription) physique-use ranges cited by community/coaching sources are roughly 15–30 mg/day for around 8–12 weeks; older studies on East German athletes found 15–35 mg/day did not significantly raise AST/ALT, whereas modern users taking 60 mg or more are expected to see negative effects.[11][16] These figures are reported usage, not medical guidance, and higher doses sharply increase liver and cardiovascular risk.[11][18]
