What it is
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound 157) is a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide derived from a protein found in human gastric juice, marketed for injury recovery, tissue/tendon repair, and gut protection.[1][2] It is not approved by any drug regulatory agency for human use and has been studied almost entirely in laboratory animals.[2][3]
How it works
In preclinical (mostly rodent) models, BPC-157 is described as a "cytoprotective" agent that helps maintain blood-vessel (endothelial) integrity and promotes new blood-vessel growth (angiogenesis), which is proposed to underlie its wound- and tissue-healing effects.[5][7] Mechanistically it is reported to act through the VEGF receptor (VEGFR2) and the nitric-oxide (NO) signalling system, and to modulate dopamine, prostaglandin and growth-factor pathways.[4][7] These mechanisms are largely hypothetical in humans: over 80% of published BPC-157 records come from a single research group, experiments typically use only one or two fixed doses, and the same pro-angiogenic/NO activity has been flagged as a plausible tumour-promoting hazard.[6]
Risks & side effects
Most important: Because BPC-157 has barely been studied in humans, no one knows whether there is a safe dose or any safe way to use it.[5] The FDA placed it in its Category 2 of substances presenting significant safety risks, citing potential immune reactions (immunogenicity), peptide-related impurities/contamination, and a lack of human safety data; its pro-angiogenic activity is also a plausible tumour-promoting hazard.[6][8]

Dosage context
Commonly-reported, NOT a prescription. Almost all dosing comes from rodent studies (typically ~1–50 µg/kg, often 10 µg/kg, once or twice daily); these do not translate directly to humans.[10][11] Peptide-user communities commonly cluster around 200–500 µg subcutaneously per day, but rigorous human dose-finding data do not exist — a 2025 pilot in just two adults used single IV infusions of 10–20 mg.[11] The elimination half-life is under 30 minutes in animal IV/IM studies (~15 min IV in rats), with IM bioavailability around 14–19% in rats.[12]
